3.25″ drop point in W2, hollow ground on our 14″ contact wheel — the concave grind leaves a thinner edge than a flat or sabre grind at the same spine thickness, which is what gives a hollow-ground blade its characteristically light, low-drag slicing feel on an EDC-scale knife that’s mostly cutting tape, cordage, and packaging rather than doing heavy field work.
The differential quench that raises W2’s hamon also happens to suit an EDC blade’s actual demands well: a hard 60–61 HRC edge for holding a fine apex, backed by a noticeably softer spine that adds a real margin of toughness against the accidental drops and pocket-clip stress an everyday carry knife takes that a dedicated kitchen or field knife never will.
